The Chronic Pain Treatment & Recovery Process at the Raleigh Facial Pain Center
We begin our treatment process by getting to know you through extensive questions that pinpoint your sources of pain, reducing the time it takes to lessen your pain and discomfort. We have our patients fill out a detailed questionnaire that helps us understand your pain or abnormal dysfunction.
Before you arrive for your initial exam, we prepare by reviewing your information and any past records you provide for us. At your first exam, we ask questions to elaborate, refine or gather unique information a questionnaire can’t cover, in order to improve our understanding of your pain, and then we examine your head and neck structures.
Before you leave, you will receive in-depth information guides to read and study at home. These educational guides will help you learn about the factors that cause your pain and how to make informed decisions about improving your health. Studying these guides will increase your understanding, allowing you to ask more specific questions and leading to reduced office consultation time, and therefore reduced cost to you.
After you leave our office, we compile the information from the exam with your information, study the potential sources of your pain, and prepare a diagnosis and treatment plan.
When you come in for your second visit, we review our findings and diagnoses with you, map out a custom treatment plan, share information with your referring doctor, and project the expectations for your improved lifestyle.
We invite you to begin the recovery process today.
Beating Chronic Pain: The Treatment Paradox
One of the goals of chronic pain therapy is to get you pain free for 60-90 days in order to set the stage for healing or reverse the adaptive pain system process. This pain-free period usually follows a treatment period of at least 120 days. At the Raleigh Facial Pain Center we know that your time demands are already stressful, but we feel your investment of time to control chronic pain will provide high dividends of reduced pain and improved health.
The sad truth is that chronic pain has no respect for your time and money conflicts. If you are to get better, we must do what has been proven successful for all who have gone before you.
You must conquer chronic pain with all the energy, effort, resources and vigor you can muster. You will need to delay, transform, delegate, and eliminate all barriers during your orthopedic journey. This means dedicating the next several months to “recovering” from chronic pain as if you were recovering from major surgery.
Make recovery your highest priority for just two or three months — or four months if you have fibromyalgia, severe joint damage or significant anxiety of depression. If you focus all your mental and physical resources on recovery, the result will be so great that you will never regret it.
